Maraya Franca

Marketing
Maraya Franca

Maraya Franca (she/her) is an immigrant, multidisciplinary artist, and overwhelmingly a Bean. She’s thrilled to be a part of Bean & Hat's history by being their social media assistant and helping promote this whimsical and wonderful piece. Her favourite book smells of rain, homemade cooking, white wine, and lavender. Her dream is to feel like she belongs somewhere, ideally a place with lots of sunshine, freedom, and ocean breeze.

Vicki Santos

Stage Manager
Vicki Santos

Vicki Santos (she/they) is a queer, Filipina-Portuguese Canadian stage manager and technician finishing her final semester in Douglas College’s Stagecraft and Technology Program. She has assisted stage managed Light the Way (2021), Buto/Buto (2022) and Thy Neighbour’s Wife (2023). In addition, Vicki was a head electrician for Douglas College’s fall production of Mad Forest (2022) and is finishing off Douglas’ program stage managing A Vampire Story (2023). Vicki dreams of one day going on tour. We shall see if that’s with a production, theatre or otherwise :). I hope you enjoy the show!

Eveleen Kozak

Dramaturg
Eveleen Kozak

Eveleen Kozak (she/her) is a dramaturg in the constant process of learning, unlearning, and relearning. In her dramaturgical practice, she leans into curiosity and possibility while working through a trauma-informed, feminist, anti-racist, anti-ableist, and decolonial lens. Currently, Eveleen is interested in interdisciplinary artistic work and learning more about Ukrainian folk land-based practices. She has a BFA with honours in Theatre Performance with a concentration in film production from Simon Fraser University (SFU). While at SFU, she met playwright Katie Gartlan-Close in a play where Katie was a writer and Eveleen was the little voice in her head. Eveleen thinks they have continued this dynamic by collaborating on Katie’s previous works and Bean & Hat. Her favourite part of working on the show was discussing the layered mythology of the Bean & Hat world with Katie.

Communications Specialist
Rosemary Newton

Rosemary Newton (she/her) is a Vancouver-based writer and communications professional. With a journalism and public relations background, she couldn't be happier working on the marketing team to spread the word about Bean & Hat far and wide. Since laughing out loud, quite literally, at the 10-minute version of Bean & Hat at the Pull Festival, Rosemary has been a huge fan. Relating heavily to the script's joyful absurdity and melancholy, she can't wait to see it come to life. Her favourite book smells like sand and the ocean because she's probably taken it to the beach. Despite her best efforts to be dignified, she is absolutely a Bean (although she does enjoy the odd statement hat).

Graphic Designer
Thomas Newton

Thomas Newton (he/him), aka Newton Creative Co., is a washed-up athlete turned Childcare Worker turned Graphic Designer who enjoys writing about himself in the third person because it makes him feel special. Of course, starting a new career path AND a business during a pandemic wasn't necessarily the brightest of ideas, but hey, he's never been happier...so he must be doing something right.

Thomas has purposefully tried to limit the details he knows about Bean & Hat so that he can thoroughly enjoy the play upon seeing it for the first time. If you're reading this, he thinks you should buy tickets RIGHT NOW to enjoy it too. Thomas' favourite book smells like melted cheese, the trampled grass of a football pitch, or a freshly waxed gymnasium floor (but not all three at the same time).
Enjoy the show and support local arts and creatives whenever you can!
